Hallo Leute,
Until a couple of weeks ago, I had Firefox 2.0.0.3 (English version) installed with about 30 extensions configured to suit my taste... a very personalized browser setup.
Despite it being overfilled with extensions, everything worked just OK - although the browser was of course not as fast as if it were running with only a few extensions.
The problems began when it automatically (after asking for confirmation) updated to the new version 2.0.0.4, bringing up a whole lot of problems.
During the installation process it didn't find any incompatible extensions, but after having updated, everything went wrong.
Among other problems, I experienced the following:
- Extremelly long loading time (about 40 seconds or more). Just for the record, before upgrading it would always load in less than 15 seconds.
- Frozen saved session: The same old saved session (being it the last one before the update took place) keeps on loading each time the browser starts. I use the Tab Mix Plus for session saving.
Apart from that, the notice saying that Firefox has been closed unexpectedly and asking whether or not to restore the last session also appears upon each start, disregarding how it has been closed last time.
- Periodic system freezings: While Firefox is running, the computer freezes for about half a second every 5-10 seconds, becoming unresponsive to page scrolling or link clicking. When this happens, CPU usage soares to around 100%, before going down again. This repeats at more or less regular intervals (apparently more often if the FFox window has the focus, but even when it's in background the system load increases unexpectedly in a periodic manner.)
Trying to resucitate Firefox, I tried first to use the safe mode to disable the add-ons and reset the preferences, but it didn't work. Even with all add-ons disabled it kept on loading the same old session. The only thing that improved were the system freezings, but I'm not sure if it's due to some extension causing them or just that with no extensions the program meant a lighter load for the PC and that rendered the momentary freezings unnoticeable.
Having had limited success, I proceeded to reinstall the browser anew, but it didn't work either. I guess that it could work if I run the installation on a clean system (that is, having uninstalled the program beforehand) but I haven't tried out of fear of losing all my carefully selected extensions and their configurations. Of course I could then reinstall them, but considering they are so many and each of them has been reconfigured to make FFox work exactly as I want it to, it could well take a couple of hours.
So I'd like to ask you for help, either to solve the issues I have with the browser or on how to perform a complete back-up of the themes and extensions with their preferences, so that I can load them again after reinstalling.
Finally, I have to remark that I'm 99.9% sure that there are not other issues interfering (such as having malware causing the system slow-downs) other than the ones stated above.
Ich hoffe, ihr könnt mir helfen.
Vielen Dank im Voraus! :klasse:
