Ich habe diese Tage eine Mail bekommen, bei der ich noch Fragen habe, vielleicht kennt sich jemand besser damit aus.
Greetings Add-on developer,
Mozilla has published updated Add-on Policies that will take effect 4 August, 2025. After this date, all new and existing submissions will be subject to the updated policies. Our main objective with these changes was to simplify and clarify Add-on policies for the developer community. The main changes are:
- “Closed group” prohibition lifted – Add-ons intended for “closed user groups” such as internal use at a company or test groups were not permitted. This restriction is being removed.
- Data consent and control terminology – Previously, the policies intermingled the terms data collection and transmission. While we consider these terms to be directly related, developers often assumed they were distinct aspects of handling data. The updated policies clarify the role of data transmission and information leaving the control of the browser.
- Privacy policy not required to be hosted on AMO – In effort to reduce developer overhead and publishing friction, we are no longer requiring extensions to host privacy policies on AMO.
- User Scripts API policy added – User script managers are a type of extension that allows users to inject custom, website-specific scripts that alter a site’s appearance or behavior. Our policies now clarify that only these extensions may use the userScripts API, and it cannot be used to extend or modify the functionality of the script manager itself.
- Source code submission guidelines – This section has been revised to indicate that all dependencies must either be included in the source code package directly or downloaded through the respective official package managers during the build process.
Bei der user scripts api habe ich kaum eine Idee, was das sein könnte.
Bei closed groups hoffe ich, dass die Möglichkeit für die rein persönliche Verwendung, also keine Distribution, nicht wegfällt. Falls doch, wäre das extrem schade.
